1870 Census; Can't find the Essman's.
1880 Census: Deceased by then.
His son, George W. Essman's death certificate lists his place of birth as Missouri. But, Nannie Essman was the informant, and since she was hissecond wife, I am assuming she was guessing since all census informationshows otherwise.
PER GENE ESSMAN: According to the information in the document that showed Lizzie dying in the home of Thomas B. in 1917, Andrew J. and Oma bothsigned sworn statements saying that David Essman died in Crawford County,AR in 1872. At that time Crawford County encompassed parts of what arenow Franklin and Sebastian Counties. My best guess is that they musthave had a farm and it was probably in the region outside of Mulberry. If you recall, James David was on the Medlock farm in the 1880 census asa 15 year old boy and later bought land from Medlock for his own farm andlived out his life on that property. That farm was in Franklin Countybetween fairly close to Mulberry which would have been the closest townto the area where the farm was located. Notwithstanding all thedifferent stories that had James David running away from home at age 12,there is also a version which stated that he went to the Medlock farm toserve as an apprentice and did so with the permission of his mother wholived nearby.
