Individual:
In 1827-1832, edited the "Rochester Observer", a religious paper and in 1833-1834, he made well known investigations of the Almo houses, Prisons and other institutions in New York. For many years following he was a distinguished as a lecturer and in his efforts for reform in the liquor traffic. The honorary degree of Master of Arts was conferred upon him in Middlebury College in 1839.
