Adam Shurick was born in Bedford County, in 1808, and was the son of Adam and Elizabeth Shurick nee Earhart. The former was born in Germany, and the latter in Franklin County. The family removed to Westmoreland county, and located near Baldridge's Mill, near Youngstown. In 1848, Adam settled in Blairsville, and erected a steam grist mill, which was destroyed by fire on the 22nd of March 1861. It was rebuilt in the same year. He has been twice married; first in 1830, to Margaret A. , daughter of Christian Soxman, of Westmoreland County, who died in January 1875, about sixty-seven years of age; and second, in 1878, to Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Moses Carr, an old resident of Jefferson County.
